IC1 NEWSLETTER: THE FOURTH IC1 SMART GRIDS INNOVATION WORKSHOP

21-23 November, 2018
Rome, Italy

The fourth Deep Dive Workshop for Innovation Challenge 1, the Smart Grids Innovation Challenge, will bring together experts, industry leaders and Mission Innovation representatives to discuss how this emerging technology can help accelerate the growing integration of renewable energy generation in electricity grids.

Research and development of smart grid technology is needed to ensure the integration of renewable energy generation, such as wind and solar power. This workshop brings together leaders in the smart grid industry, technical experts, and government representatives to work together to develop solutions on how to overcome the unique challenges of implementing smart grids technology. MI focuses on bridging the gap between businesses and governments by identifying opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

The Smart Grids Innovation Challenge (IC1) is one of the eight ICs under MI. The main objective of IC1 is to accelerate the development and demonstration of smart grids in a variety of grid applications, including the robust, efficient, and reliable operation of regional grids and distribution grids, as well as micro-grids in diverse geographic conditions, to improve the uptake of electricity generation by renewable sources.

IC1 is co-led by China, India and Italy. Participating countries include Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sweden, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
