First Innovation Ministerial (MI-1)

San Francisco

The inaugural Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI Ministerial) was held in San Francisco, California, on June 1 – 2, 2016. MI was announced on November 30, 2015 by the leaders of 20 countries that have a shared desire to accelerate global clean energy innovation. The Ministerial serves as an opportunity to highlight the plans and actions of individual countries under MI and announce new collaborations.

This meeting of ministers from the 20 MI countries and the European Union coincided with the seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7). Both events brought global energy policymakers together with visionaries from the business and investment communities to drive high-impact, real-world action. An 8-minute summary video and photos from the MI Ministerial provides highlights of the event. A joint press release by MI members also highlights key outcomes from the event.

In addition to working sessions and public-private roundtable discussions, a clean energy action day highlighted ambitious clean energy efforts and announced new actions to help achieve national and global clean energy goals. A tented technology exhibit in San Francisco’s Union Square showcased clean energy technologies and innovative business models driving clean energy deployment around the world.

San Francisco and Silicon Valley are recognized as a global hub of the clean energy industry and served as an ideal place to host nations eager to accelerate the global clean energy revolution.
