As part of the recent MI Gathering in Santiago, Chile, MI members endorsed the Ministerial Planning Team’s proposed structure for MI-4 and provided valuable feedback on programmatic elements, helping to further refine a comprehensive, meaningful and engaging Ministerial programme.

MI-4 will start with a public-private breakfast focused on “investing in transformative change,” where business leaders and Ministers will discuss how different investment models and funding mechanisms can drive innovation to go further faster. Chatham House rules will apply, ensuring space for open, candid dialogue.

After pausing for a family photo and short networking break, the official MI programme will begin. Delegates will move into the first of two plenary sessions to focus on demonstrating impact – looking back over the year and showing how far MI has come. This is a chance to take stock of progress against what MI set out to do, follow-up on past announcements and highlight collaboration between MI members and partners through Ministerial updates, mini keynotes by guest speakers, videos, photos, and other engaging presentation tools.

New this year, following plenary, delegates will be encouraged to think differently as they consider diverse perspectives presented in a unique “ignite talk” format, a fast-paced, short and engaging presentation. A Minister, business leader, MI Champion and member of the youth delegation will each share their views and experiences in their quest for clean energy solutions.

Following this highly interactive and thought-provoking activity, delegates will have an opportunity to network with colleagues over the lunch hour.

Next, a scene setter on the “advanced innovations for a clean energy future” will reconvene delegates before they split out into public-private roundtable discussions to take a deep dive into the topics of industry/manufacturing, buildings, transportation, or power and grid edge.

The final session of the day will resume in plenary format, bringing together the day’s ideas and learnings to concentrate on raising ambition. Delegates will be encouraged to bring forward new, bold and collaborative ideas that can truly lead to the acceleration of widespread clean energy innovation.

Canada and the Ministerial Planning Team look forward to welcoming all members to one of the world’s greenest cities and to the Vancouver Convention Centre, the world’s first double LEED Platinum certified facility, for what promises to be an important milestone in building an effective, long-term global response to our shared climate challenge.
