Clean Energy RD&D investments

  • In 2021 and 2022 BMK will invest additional 88 Mio € per year from national COVID recovery funds in research with focus on climate protection (including energy, circular economy and mobility).[1] That is a rise of 20% of the current budget. Additional funds for demonstration projects in the field of decarbonisation of industry will also be provided.
  • BMK will seek to increase the budget of energy research in the future. An increase is subject to negotiations with the Ministry of Finance. Current budget planning only goes until 2023.

[1] The share of energy research (according to IEA definition) cannot be defined at the stage of budget allocation. Exact energy research expenditures for Austria will be available in June of the subsequent year (June 2021 for 2020, June 2022 for 2021).
