Strengthened Cooperation

NRCan intends to continue leading efforts in shaping clean energy innovation policies and programs in Canada and internationally. Canada recognises the value of strengthening efforts to demonstrate impact of MI activities, initiatives, and Missions. We intend to actively participate in the Insight module by sharing our program and policy experiences and best practices in the spirit of sharing lessons learned with the broader MI community.

Under the Collaborate module, Canada will co-lead the Materials for Energy (M4E) initiative. This effort will focus on developing Materials Acceleration Platforms (MAPs) to advance materials for clean energy applications.

Canada will contribute to:

  • the MI Mission on Hydrogen as a member. Through a combination of externally funded RD&D and federal laboratory work, Canada will contribute to the Mission ambition to increase the cost-competitiveness of clean hydrogen.
  • the MI Mission on Power as a Tier 2 member (e.g. participating in knowledge sharing activities and/or contributing analysis).

Canada is also interested in working with US counterparts to develop a Mission proposal on Carbon Dioxide Removal, for a potential launch at COP26.
